Propolis mats are used to collect propolis, a resin-like substance that bees produce from tree sap. The mats are placed in the hive, and as bees use propolis to seal cracks and gaps, they deposit excess propolis on the mats. Beekeepers can then remove the mats to harvest the propolis.
