A queen bee isolation cage, also known as a confinement cage, is primarily used to ensure the smooth introduction of new queens. Through the confinement of the queen, worker bees can gradually adapt to her scent, thereby reducing the likelihood of rejection.

In queen rearing, it is also used to provide a controlled environment where selected queens can lay eggs in specific cells. For swarm prevention, the cage halts egg-laying temporarily, which helps regulate colony behaviour during critical times.

Isolation cages can also play a role in Varroa mite management by interrupting their breeding cycle through brood reduction, therefore keeping infestations under control.

Processing Time
